In light of the recent explosion at Beirut’s port and the resignation of both Saad Hariri and Mustapha Adib’s government within a span of two months, it is more relevant than ever to shed light on the country’s political and sectarian upheaval. The socio-political situation is Lebanon is a culmination of years of corruption and mismanagement that finds its roots in the Lebanese Civil War.
This Expert Insights event brings forth an expert’s opinion on Lebanon’s current state of affairs and its oft-forgotten history. Join us, albeit virtually, at 11am on the 13th of October to understand the complexities of the Levant and its future!
About our guest speaker: Emile Hokayem is a Senior Fellow for Middle East Security at The International Institute of Strategic Studies. He specializes in political and conflict analysis, especially the wars and security situation in Syria, Iraq and Yemen. Additionally, he provides expertise on the rise of non-state actors and jihadist groups, Iran’s relations with its Arab neighbors and the role of external actors in the region.
His political commentary has featured in the New York Times, the Economist, the Washington Post and Foreign Policy, to name a few.
